2024 Opportunity QuiltsChain Link 87" x 73” Quilt designed, pieced and quilted by Arleen Kukua Photographer: C&T Publishing Artist's Statement Social distancing during Covid offered me many opportunities to surf the web for quilting inspiration. While viewing the virtual 2020 Tokyo Quilt Show, I was attracted to Matsuko Sugi's embroidered crazy quilt, which inspired me to draft a pattern for my interpretation of interlocking hexagons. From my stash, I pulled Kaffe Fassett stripes to interconnect with each other and encircle Yoshiko Jisenji’s abstract print fabric. They created a chain link which catches the flavor of Sugi’s quilt, while offering its own colorful uniqueness. | 3rd Time's the Charm 83” x 54” Quilt designed, pieced and quilted by Giny Dixon Photographer: Sibila Savage Artist's Statement Each decision about color and shape influences the next step. I dye-paint my fabrics, creating design and texture utilizing natural, manmade and found objects. Using freeform cutting and sewing techniques, I intuitively combine materials to fulfill my vision. Many of the fabrics in this piece have gone thru three methods of dye painting, and this is the third time I started over and completed a design that pleased me.
