  Registration for the 2024 Round Robin is now open to EBHQ members. 

  Each participant chooses either a Medallion (Traditional) or Improvisational style and prepares a starter block, which will be worked on by 5 other group members. The finished top will be returned to the originator in late summer.

  Exchanges will be made every 6 weeks, on Saturdays at 10 a.m. at Bay Quilts. Your starter block must be ready for the first exchange on February 3. Future exchange dates are March 16, April 27, June 8, July 20, and August 31. If you cannot make an exchange date, there will be a couple of alternate ways to make your exchange happen. If you've still have your blue plastic bag from previous Round Robins, let me know when you sign up whether you will reuse it.

  This year we will make blocks inspired by various prompts. Each month we will dive into different elements to make our blocks. At the end of the year, you can make a top with them or donate to us, and we will make quilts to donate to Community Quilts (DDCQP). Your block can have a Traditional, Modern, or Improv approach. Anything goes!

  This ‘Smithereens’ quilt block comes together quickly and easily and has a dynamic and improvisational appearance. It’s an ideal vehicle for upcycling a selection of neckties and shirts, or can be made using your selection of quilters cottons. The 12-block class sample uses 8 neckties and one large, long sleeve shirt. With more blocks or with the addition of a border, you can make a bigger quilt.   Just pop in at the Albany United Methodist Church (980 Stannage Ave.- cross street Marin Ave.) between 9 a.m to 3 p.m., on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Bring a potluck dish to share and your own cup, plate and utensils. You will be required to sign in at the door, just in case we need to do any Covid contact tracing. Masks are now optional.

  Need some inspiration for a future project? The EBHQ Lending Library welcomes visitors to the second floor during Open Quilting hours. Browse through books in the airy, light-filled room, or check them out for home use. Read about the Lending Library here.

  For months we've worked on projects, swapped fabric, examined quilts, chatted up a storm. Now, it's time for a significant modification and a welcome addition, each designed to enhance your Open Quilting experience.

  Just pop in at the Albany church between 9 a.m to 1 p.m., on the 3rd Saturday of every month.   You will be required to sign in at the door, just in case we need to do any Covid contact tracing. Masks are now optional.

  The EBHQ Lending Library has been moved to the second floor of the Albany church. Our quilting books can now be accessed during Open Quilting hours. You can sit in an airy, light-filled room to browse through books, or check them out for home use. Read about the Lending Library here.

  A comprehensive class in walking foot quilting. Finish your quilts on a domestic machine while enjoying all the control of your walking foot. Make stitched samples of different styles including matchstick quilting, grids, combined stitches and serpentines. Elevate your technique with beautiful organic curves and learn how to execute sharp turns. Make accurate straight line polygon spirals, designs reminiscent of string art and round out the class with super spirals.

  Along the way we will discuss using colored threads and adding hand stitching for maximum impact. Go home ready to turn your tops into quilts. You will soon be planning your quilting before you even start piecing!

  Come play!! Create artful map studies through creative exercises that will help you understand the basic principles of design. An art quilter’s most valuable asset is his or her creativity — and it needs to be reinforced through an understanding of design thinking. In this workshop you’ll find creative thinking exercises. Beginning with an exercise related to the seven principles of design --work instinctively with color – explore creativity through experimentation. All works are small, enabling you to develop ideas quickly and freely.

  You will create paper map-like collage compositions through a series of quick "hands-on" exercises and subsequently make fabric constructions. The goal of this class is to allow you to create little spontaneous works that can become the basis for a final small quilted art map. You will develop these pieces using freehand scissor cutting, layering of varied fabrics, and other techniques to create an interesting work of art.

  The primary prerequisite is a desire to have fun through the creative process and willingness to trying something new. This workshop produces mapping samples that can be used in later quilted, painted or stitched works.

  This workshop is recommended for intermediate to advanced quilters, but all are welcome.

  A map is an abstract conception of a place.  The person who makes the map has to make choices about what to include as well as what to leave out.  Each map is thus a reflection of its maker and the story they want to tell. This lecture will be about how I use maps to tell the story of a place using fabric, paint and thread.

  
  

  The focus will be on 3 types of maps:

  • Personal Narrative Maps
  • Fictional Map Narratives
