An All-Star cast of 20 quilt teachers will demonstrate some of their favorite quilting techniques, showcasing a wide variety of styles and methods. You’ll see everything from traditional to modern and art quilting approaches.

English Paper Piecing with Large Prints

Show off your beautiful large-scale prints by framing them in unique ways with English Paper Piecing. Add a single block to the back of a jean jacket or make a whole quilt! Instruction will include designing your own frames to suit your focus fabric, basting options, invisible hand stitching, and applique. PDF and SVG files will be provided for students to cut their own hexagon templates. Pre-cut templates may be purchased from Paperpieces.com or your local quilt shop.

In Person - Quilting with Upcycled and Unusual Materials

Forget the quilting police and the “cotton only” rule. In this class you will be encouraged to build a quilt entirely out of fabric other than quilting cotton, including upcycled materials and clothing: vintage blocks or textiles, shirting, silk ties, linen or rayon blouses, wool or corduroy slacks or, heavens forbid, polyester clothing. Whether you use the fabric in the shape it comes from the garment or cut it into traditional squares or triangles, your quilt will be unique and personal. Use the fabric you like; make the quilts you love. Class open to all skill levels.

Virtual Workshop - Curved Strip Sets (Swoopies)

This workshop starts with the basics of creating a curved strip slab using a large arc as a guide for our curves. The strip slab isn’t exactly improvisational piecing, but it isn’t exactly precision piecing either. It’s somewhere in the middle.Don’t worry about the ambiguity - you’ll receive very specific instructions during the workshop!

After you’ve created the strip slabs, there are a few options for your finished block. We’ll cover the steps necessary to make two kinds of blocks. Both utilize improvisational curved piecing skills that will be covered thoroughly.

Ever wondered how to ‘reimagine’ clothing to use for quilts? Not sure how or where to start? This workshop will help you take the leap to turn repurposed clothing to memorable quilts and help you exercise your improvisational creative muscles!

In this workshop you’ll learn how to ‘debone’ a shirt or other sewn garment to garner fabric – and pieces large and small - for your quilt. We’ll discuss improv concepts such as making choices as you go, embracing imperfection, and taking small steps to get started. With guided exploration, we focus on the enjoyment of the process and the satisfaction of creating something unique!

Virtual Workshop - Inside Out Quilt

This is a one day 5 hour workshop,

In this workshop, Allie will teach you how to make an “Inside Out Quilt,” one that plays with texture and color using scraps from your stash. Inside Out quilts have a fabulously soft texture that becomes more enjoyable with each wash.

Allie’s Inside Out Quilts combine the fun of of raw edge texture, with a color flow inspired by watercolor painting. Allie will teach how to look at fabric with an eye for color, using scraps that one might not typically use in the same quilt.

This workshop utilizes color theory, playing with texture, and opening the idea of piecing with different techniques.

Allie will teach her method of preparing and cutting the fabric, talk about different design layouts, and help guide participants through the making of their quilts.
