Learn to make three-dimensional Flying Geese for an energetic scrappy windmill quilt. We’ll cover value, contrast, texture, style, scale and more as we choose fabrics to make your quilt shine. You’ll make one block and then decide if you want to make more for a runner, wall quilt, throw or bed-size quilt. A day of fabric and fun to build your skills and boost your confidence in combining diverse fabrics for dynamite scrappy quilts.

An All-Star cast of 18 quilt teachers will demonstrate some of their favorite quilting techniques, showcasing a wide variety of styles and methods. Intro to Curved Piecing - Ribbon Quilt

This is a one day 3 hour workshop

Ribbons is an advanced beginner pattern that provides a gentle introduction to curved piecing with the quarter circle/drunkard’s path block.

In this class we will walk through the pattern and construction of the quilt, consider fabric selection to highlight the ribbon motif, discuss tips and tricks for curved piecing, cut fabrics using templates, and start constructing the quilt. We’ll also talk about different quilting motifs that work well with this design. Most students can expect to finish several blocks to a whole row, and will leave fully prepared to finish the quilt at home.

Virtual Workshop - Bite Size Gems

MJ Kinman, maker of giant gem quilts, will show you how to create sparkling gem blocks using the design and piecing techniques she relies on to create her signature quilts. During this fast-paced class, students will create their own singularly beautiful work of faceted light.

MJ is quick to point out that this technique is NOT foundation paper piecing. There’s no sewing to paper or tearing paper out of the back of your quilt block when finished. Instead, this is traditional piecing using freezer paper as your templates. If you can put two pieces of fabric, right sides together, with a quarter-inch seam allowance, you can do this!

Over the course of a single day-long session, students will learn how to:

Create a freezer paper pattern.

Understand how different types of fabrics impact the flow of light and color across their design.

Assemble the fabric facets to create their own block of faceted color.

Virtual Workshop - Stitched Mosaics

Create photorealistic quilts one square at a time in this one-day workshop. Learn the techniques that make up Timna’s Barnyard Series of animal quilts. Using a photo and kit provided in class, the process of making a fabric mosaic using turned edge machine applique is explained. We will break down the construction process, explore color and value as design elements, and learn how to choose the right fabric for the right location. For intermediate level quilters. Leaf finishes at 8”x10”.
