- Marilyn Belford
- Saturday, Sept 25, & Monday, Sept 27, 2010; — Dealing with faces
(Supply List)
-
|
This workshop includes demonstrations and hands-on practice of the
process Marilyn uses to create realistic portraits in fabric.
On Day One, Marilyn will demonstrate how to enhance a photo
and turn it into a line drawing using a computer,
discuss alternative methods that don't require a computer,
and cover what makes a good photo for a fabric portrait.
Working with Marilyn's drawings from the kit, you will be
guided through the process of transferring designs,
cutting, applying and fusing fabrics.
In preparation for Day Two, Marilyn will give pointers on threads
to bring for threadpainting.
On Day Two, students will bring sewing machines and threads,
and practice techniques for embellishing and filling in detail.
Marilyn will demonstrate threadpainting and students will
work on their samples.
You will leave this workshop ready to make a beautiful
fabric portrait of your own design.
There is a $15 material fee for the kit, which includes a
copy of an original photograph, an enhanced & posterized image,
a line drawing on paper, an image with all the fabric arranged,
ready for threadpainting, graphite paper for image transfer,
and a piece of plain muslin.
Students will choose from four faces with a variety of facial
features, for example eyes, eyes with glasses, smiles with
and without teeth, facial hair, etc.
Some students may have time to complete multiple sample
images by the end of Day Two, so the supply list includes
additional materials you will need if you have time to go beyond
the portrait in the kit.
Bring a zig-zag sewing machine with feed-dogs down
capability on Day Two.
