We have recently learned that, because of the current turmoil in their country,
the hospital staff members in Goma, DR of Congo are no longer able to handle the safe distribution of our quilts.
It may even be that the quilts are just too valuable and could put the new owners at risk in a country
torn to bits by war.
First, please know how much everyone loves the quilts that have been successfully distributed.
I know that many EBHQers and friends still have quilts in progress for Africa.
If you would like these quilts to be distributed through our networks here in the Bay Area I would be happy to do so.
Some of the organizations I have in mind are:
-
First Place for Youth which supports young people in their transition from foster care to successful adulthood by promoting choices and strengthening individual and community resources.
-
Alameda County Family Justice Center, a one-stop center for families experiencing domestic violence.
-
George Mark Children's Hospice, a welcoming, home-like refuge for the most seriously and terminally ill children and their families.
We can always find the perfect place for your quilts here in the East Bay area even though they may have first been started with a goal of comforting women in Africa.
And please do know how much your loving stitches and concern for the women in the Congo have meant to me.
Sincerely,
Deanna Davis

An EBHQ quilt hanging at the Heal Africa Hospital in Goma in the Jubilee Center where all the training for the health care workers is conducted. The quilt was made from donations from four different quilt guild members. Anyone recognize their own little leftover triangles and two-patches?
